All of them answer to Artemis. Apollo and Artemis were born twins: he took the sun, she took the moon. He became the god of light and truth, of everything revealed. She became the goddess of the hunt and the night, of everything kept hidden until the moment it matters. Two halves of the same sky, and two halves of the same quiver.

Nobody sees what you are holding

Actaeon was a hunter who saw what he was not meant to see. He stumbled on Artemis at her bath, and the goddess turned him into a stag on the spot. His own hounds did the rest.

That is the whole idea behind an opaque back. Across a table, under a bright venue light, at the wrong angle, a thin sleeve can betray you. The Artemis back is solid and light-tight, so the only person who knows what you drew is you.

The moon does not glare

Apollo’s light is direct. It floods a room. Artemis rules the softer one, the light that lets you see without being blinded.

Tournament halls are lit like operating theaters, and shiny backs throw all of it straight back into everyone’s eyes, including yours. A matte back diffuses it. No hotspots, no mirror, no squinting at your own hand, and photos of your board state look like a board state instead of a lamp.

 

She does not miss

Artemis asked her father for a silver bow when she was three years old, and she has not missed since. For her, precision was never a boast. It was a baseline.

A sleeve makes the same kind of promise. Precision cutting and consistent dimensions from pack to pack and batch to batch, so a deck sleeved today still shuffles like the deck you sleeved last season, and so no card in your deck is ever marked as different from the rest.

Built for the wild, not for the display case

Artemis lived in the mountains with her hounds and her hunting party. Nothing she carried was decorative. It had to survive the terrain.

Decks live rough lives too: backpacks, car trunks, ten thousand shuffles, tables that are never as clean as they look. Split seams and peeling corners are the two ways a sleeve betrays you, and both come from the same place, a product designed to look good in a photo instead of to be used. Durability is the point.

Protector of everything young and wild

Artemis was the guardian of wild creatures and of everything too young to defend itself. Your newest, most fragile cards qualify.
Acid-free and PVC-free polypropylene, a heavy 115-micron wall, and strong seams keep bent corners, scratches and fading away from the cards you cannot replace.

Artemis has been running in matte black for years, in two lengths: 66 x 91 mm for a snug standard fit, and 66 x 93 mm when you want the extra room that double sleeving needs. Both have a clear front and a matte black back, so your card art stays vivid while the back stays private.

It is time she ran in color, and rather than pick a palette in an office and hope for the best, we are asking the people who actually sleeve their decks.
