Hello, champions of the card table!
Have you ever looked at your Quiver or Bolt Card Case and thought,
“It’s awesome, but I wish it could have a bit more…me”?
Well, today is your lucky day because we’re rolling up our sleeves and diving into the world of DIY customization, all thanks to the brilliant guide provided by the talented Beyond the Machina.
Step-by-Step to Your Personal Masterpiece
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
You’ll need:
- A Quiver Card Case or Bolt Card Case
- 1 inch thick painter’s tape
- Posca pens or equivalent paint pens
- Clear gloss spray
Step 2: Prep Your Case
Once the Quiver arrives, open it up from its lovely box. Remove the protective plastic and zipper guard.
Remove all contents from the quiver and put them aside.
Step 3: Tape It Up
With painters tape tape all around the Quiver along with the zippers all the way to the bottom. There’s no need overall to tape the bottom itself. Take two strips of tape along the nameplate and then VERY carefully cut around the plate leaving just the shape of the plate. Rather leave some tape than cut into the quiver.
Make sure to press the tape down firmly along the edges to prevent any paint bleed.
Step 4: Sketch It Out
Very carefully with a 2B or softer B pencil draw what you intend to paint. If you make a mistake you can carefully and gently erase and then clean shavings with a moist but not wet washcloth or similar.
This is your vision, your game plan – don’t be afraid to erase and adjust until it’s just right.
Step 5: Color Your World
After drawing what you intend to paint, draw over the pencil with a 1M or 3M black posca pen. Let it dry. Once you have that outline, slowly take your colored posca pens to the inside and just get a surface coat, more or less coloring in the outline you’ve made. Let it dry. Once it’s dry, I suggest coloring it again to make the colors stick and look brighter. Once that is done go over again with black where needed to make a clean outline.
For black Quivers I suggest working with a spotlight or nice desk lamp so you can see where you have painted with black.
Step 6: Repeat Step 5
Repeat that process until the entire Quiver is painted.
Step 7: Seal the Deal
Once the artwork is complete, take it and the gloss seal spray to a well ventilated area and spray the sealant over the quiver from about 2-3 feet away. let it sit for a minute, turn the Quiver around (so you’d get the back part of the art) and spray it again.
This will protect your design from the wear and tear of travel and gaming sessions.
Step 8: Wait
Let the Quiver sit and just vibe for a bit, letting the seal set and all that.
Step 9: Remove the tape
Remove the tape from the Quiver and clean up any residue left behind on the zippers and quiver emblem.
Step 10: Appreciate Your Work
After the spray has dried, step back and admire your custom Quiver Time case. You’ve taken something great and made it even greater – and totally unique to you.
